Bullet Train, 500 Miles & Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye

A few days back I was watching Bullet Train and I recognized something that I want to share with you guys. Bullet Train is an action movie that was released on August 5, 2022. It had big stars like Brad Pitt, Hiroyuki Sanada and Sandra Bullock and it also had cameos from Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum.

[Spoiler Alert] So as I was watching the movie there is a scene where Lemon (one assassin in the movie) find out that his partner/brother Tangerine has been killed and they show him sitting next to him in the train and as the camera moves closer to them there was tune that started playing in the background.

At first I thought I have heard it somewhere but I was not sure. But when the singer started singing I heard a melody that I had definitely heard before. It was from an indian movie called Jurm, that was released in 1990. The song is “Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye” and it was sung beautifully by Kumar Sanu and the song is very popular in sub continent. So I thought that the Japanese singer took the melody from an indian song.

It is an indian song sung by Kumar Sanu called “Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye” for the movie Jurm.

But then I thought maybe it was copied by the indian musician. So I searched the soundtracks of the movie and I found out that the song was first released by an American folk music trio named “The Journeymen” and it was called “500 Miles”. John Phillips, Scott McKenzie, and Dick Weissman were the singers in the band.

It is really a beautiful song and I was amazed that we all in Pakistan and our neighbours in India have been in love with the song without knowing where the melody generated.

While I was searching for the song I also stumbled upon another version of the song that was really beautifully sung. It was by Joan Baez, who is a female singer from America. She sang this song live in a concert a while ago, I have attached the video so you can enjoy that too.

I hope that the people who made the music for that indian movie got permission first from the band who originally made the melody, because lyrics are different but the melody is exactly the same.

I would also like to share another cover of this song by Anna Salman that I really liked. She is an up and coming singer from Pakistan and does covers but have also made some songs herself. I really like the soft music and her amazin voice in this cover.

You can also find the lyrics below for both versions of the song, the original one in English and the one in Urdu by India.

500 Miles Lyrics

If you miss the train I?m on
You will know that I am gone
You can hear the whistle blow
A hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow
A hundred miles

Lord, I’m one, Lord, I’m two
Lord, I’m three, Lord, I’m four
Lord, I’m five hundred miles away from home
Away from home, away from home
Away from home, away from home
Lord, I’m five hundred miles
Away from home

Not a shirt on my back
Not a penny to my name
Lord, I can’t go back home this a-way
This a-away, this a-way
This a-way, this a-way
Lord, I can’t go back home
This a-way

If you miss the train I?m on
You will know that I am gone
You can hear the whistle blow
A hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles

You can hear the whistle blow
A hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow
A hundred miles

Jab koi baat bigad jae Lyrics

Jab koi baat bigad jae,
Jab koi mushkil pad jae
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava
Jab koi baat bigad jae,
Jab koi mushkil pad jae
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava
Na koi hai, na koi tha,
Zindagi mein tumhare siva
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava

Ho chandni jab tak raat,
Deta hai har koi saath
Tum magar andhero mein,
Na chhodna mera haath
Ho chandni jab tak raat,
Deta hai har koi saath
Tum magar andhero mein,
Na chhodna mera haath
Jab koi baat bigad jae,
Jab koi mushkil pad jae
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava
Na koi hai, na koi tha,
Zindagi mein tumhare siva
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava

Vafadari ki vo rasme,
Nibhaenge ham to kasme
Ke ek bhi sans zindagi ki,
Jab tak ho apne basme
Vafadari ki vo rasme,
Nibhaenge ham to kasme
Ke ek bhi sans zindagi ki
Jab tak ho apne basme
Jab koi baat bigad jae,
Jab koi mushkil pad jae
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava
Na koi hai, na koi tha,
Zindagi mein tumhare siva
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava

Dil ko mere hua yaki,
Ham pahle bhi mile kahi
Silsila ye sadiyo ka,
Koi aaj ki baat nahi
Dil ko mere hua yaki,
Ham pahle bhi mile kahi
Silsila ye sadiyo ka,
Koi aaj ki baat nahi
Jab koi baat bigad jae,
Jab koi mushkil pad jae
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava
Jab koi baat bigad jae,
Jab koi mushkil pad jae
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava
Na koi hai, na koi tha,
Zindagi mein tumhare siva
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava
Tum dena saath mera, o, hamnava.
