Islamabad – The bat symbol of PTI has been taken from them by Supreme Court. The verdict was announced following a day-long hearing by a three-member bench, with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa leading and Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Musarrat Hilali as members.
This is the first time in the history of Pakistan that one of the most popular parties in the country has lost its election symbol on the basis of intra-party elections after the release of the election schedule and just 25 days before the general elections.
In this way, 859 candidates of the National and Provincial Assemblies of this party will contest the elections independently on different symbols. The pro-NL journalists have been making a false narrative so far that what happened to PTI also happened to the PML-N in 2018.
But we should be reminded that Nawaz Sharif case in 2018 was totally different from this one. In 2018 Nawaz was disqualified but in 2024 after SC verdict approximately 200 million plus voters of PTI has lost their fundamental right to vote for the party they want. It will also create opportunities for horse-trading on a huge scale because all of these candidates will have no legal binding to PTI. PTI will also lose the ability to get minority seats and seat reserved for women.
Although this is a big blow to PTI and they are out of the election before it began but PTI supporters and workers are already sharing new symbols of their members and have started the election campaign.
